Biara has been working as an accredited exercise physiologist since 2011. She has extensive experience with musculoskeletal conditions, particularly spinal rehabilitation and chronic pain conditions. Her professional background includes the provision of health education and exercise programs for chronic disease management, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and mental health. She has also provided corporate health services, including ergonomics. Having worked in both metropolitan and remote regions of Australia, she has considerable experience in culturally-sensitive healthcare.
Biara’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Nutrition, a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Rehabilitation), and a Professional Certificate of Pain Sciences. She is currently pursuing a Master of Research in pain science. To further enhance her expertise, Biara has completed various specialised courses focused on chronic pain management including multi-day workshops with EmpowerRehab, Anjelo Ratnachandra (Beyond Pain) and the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute, as well as the University of Sydney’s 8-week Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) program for pain management. Her approach to pain management follows the biopsychosocial and person-centered models of care, focusing on exercise/activity management, pain science education, and lifestyle modifications using CBT, motivational interviewing and andragogical education methods. Biara’s priority is to support her patients in line with their goals and individual challenges.
In addition to her work in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, Biara has a special interest in neurodiversity-affirming care and supporting individuals with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and dysautonomia, including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Her unique understanding is informed by both her lived experience and ongoing professional development. She stays current with the latest research and actively pursues additional training to enhance her skills.
Biara’s ultimate goal is to empower her patients to self-manage their conditions, improve their function, and achieve a sustainable return to work and life.
